Nineteen Scholars Affiliated with the Department of Data Science (DS) are Recognized in Stanford’s List of World’s Top 2% Scientists

We are proud to share that nineteen faculty members affiliated with the Department of Data Science (DS) have been recognized as Top 2% of the World’s Most Cited Scholars by the Stanford-Elsevier indicators.

This year, nearly two hundred and ten scholars from CityUHK were named among the “World’s Top 2% Most-cited Scientists”. Compared to the overall number of teaching and research staff at the University, this is the highest proportion of top scientists in Hong Kong, demonstrating the University’s exceptional research capabilities. The research achievements of these scholars are widely cited by their peers and internationally recognised.

The selection ranked the top 100,000 scientists by citation score (with and without self-citations) or a percentile rank of 2% or above in their specialty field. The list is based on two sets of categorizations. Career-long consists of data running up to the end of 2023; whereas Single Year data pertained to citations received during calendar year 2023. The ranking is based on the “Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators”, compiled and announced annually by Professor John P.A. Ioannidis and his team of notable researchers from Stanford University. It identifies scientists and social scientists who have demonstrated significant and broad influence, reflected in the publication of multiple papers frequently cited by their peers during the last decade. Scientists are classified into 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields. The rankings are calculated based on standardised information of citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions, and a composite indicator (c-score).
