Four CityUHK Subjects Secure Top 50 Ranking in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025

An outstanding performance in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject 2025 has again highlighted City University of Hong Kong’s (CityUHK) academic excellence on the international academic stage.
According to QS, four CityUHK subjects are ranked in the global top 50; 12 are listed in the top 3 in Hong Kong.
Altogether, 20 CityUHK subjects are ranked in the top 100 worldwide. The four subjects in the global top 50 are:
- Social Policy and Administration: #37
- Linguistics: #38
- Data Science and Artificial Intelligence: #45
- Communication and Media Studies: #48
Additionally, CityUHK has entered the global top 100 for Veterinary Science for the first time, cementing the University's leading position in veterinary education on the international stage. The six-year Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine programme offered by the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences at CityUHK is the only programme in Asia accredited by the two foremost regulatory bodies for veterinary surgeons in the UK and Australia/New Zealand.
Moreover, considerable progress was made in five Broad Subject Areas, particularly in Engineering and Technology, which climbed 48 places from last year to #99. Arts and Humanities, Life Sciences and Medicine, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences and Management recorded significant improvements, too.
Professor Freddy Boey, President and University Distinguished Professor at CityUHK, expressed his gratitude for the international recognition of CityUHK's academic performance in the QS ranking exercise.

We will continue to nurture leaders with a global vision through inspirational, interactive, and innovative educational approaches, thereby contributing to higher education in Hong Kong and globally," he said.
Over the past year, CityUHK has established the Institute of Digital Medicine, the College of Computing, the Hong Kong Institute of AI for Science, and the College of Biomedicine. More recently, the Institute for Materials Innovation was set up in collaboration with the école Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).
These new platforms offer researchers and industry professionals across various disciplines more significant opportunities to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and enhance CityUHK’s impact regionally and globally.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject evaluates the academic programmes of leading universities by assessing five performance indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per paper, H-index, and international research network. A total of 1,747 universities from over 100 countries/regions were included in the 2025 rankings.
