Programme Aims

The programme aims to :

enhance existing construction related professionals with the knowledge of urban design and regional planning;
produce experts with comprehensive knowledge of urban design and regional planning;
offer a route for further study to graduates of construction related disciplines;
provide multi-disciplinary approach for architecture, civil engineering, urban design, urban planning, building services and construction professionals;
train/equip students with the skills for carrying out research works in various related disciplines.

Programme Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs)

Upon successful completion of this Programme, students should be able to:

Review and evaluate in-depth knowledge of urban design and regional planning;
Interpret and comply with legal aspects of building and urban design and regional planning;
Develop comfort, convenience and safety planning of the built environment to meet the society’s needs;
Develop research approach to solve problems in the various areas in building and urban design performance;
Appraise the professional practice for urban design and regional planning and the corresponding regulations and code of practice.

Professional Recognition

RICS approved to grant accreditation for the programme from 2014/2015 academic year. In June 2021, the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS) approved the programme as a cognate degree programme for admission to the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) Scheme leading to professional membership under the Planning & Development Division of the HKIS.?Hong Kong Institute of Urban Design (HKIUD) approved to grant accreditation for the programme for a period of 5 years commencing 21 September 2022.

Additional Information

· For courses set with pre-cursor(s), ACE Department requires that all students must have attempted (including class attendance, coursework submission and examination) the precursor course(s) so identified.

· Where courses are assessed by a combination of coursework and examination, to pass a course, students must obtain minimum marks of 30% in both coursework and examination components, and an overall mark of at least 40%.

· The teaching schedules of some courses offered in Summer Term may start a few weeks earlier than the normal University schedule; students are advised to check the teaching schedules with the Course Leaders before registering for the courses.
